Like mine, your garden probably needs some assistance getting prepared for Spring. So it\u2019s time to pull out the lawnmower, rake and trowel from the shed and get gardening!<\/p>\n<h2>The Tidy Up<\/h2>\n<p>Make a start by removing all the debris (mud, leaves etc.) Unfortunately this has to be done to let the fun begin! Inspect your tools and prepare them, if they have seen better days I would suggest investing in some new ones. It is now time to remove any waterproof covers or protection from your garden furniture or plants.<\/p>\n<p>The better the tools, the better the maintenance. Finally, get rid of the weeds! Killing and removing the root will ensure they do not grow back.<\/p>\n<h2>Prepare the Soil<\/h2>\n<p>The past few months weather wise may have resulted in garden soil to be in poor condition. Our very wet winters wash away many of our soils nutrients. However many gardeners tend to forget that this is the very first job to do.<\/p>\n<p>As we creep further into the start of Spring, the weather is warming up. Your task is to get the soil top notch \u2013allowing the soil to nurture all of your wonderful plants, just in time for them to grow.<\/p>\n<h2>Give those Old Plants a Snip<\/h2>\n<p>To ensure your flowers and plants grow anew for Spring, the ones that soldiered through the winter will need to be pruned. We normally wait until Mid March &#8211; April for this type of gardening in case our British weather takes a turn for the worst! <\/p>\n<h2>The Fun Part &#8211; Plant new flowers<\/h2>\n<p>So, you have shaped up the garden and its in top form. It is now time for the fun to begin and focus on your new plants. We recommend the below for decent spring plants:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pansies<\/li>\n<li>Vegetables like lettuce and peas<\/li>\n<li>Daffodils<\/li>\n<li>Lilacs<\/li>\n<li>Tulips<\/li>\n<li>Pagodas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Perennials are your best friend for gardening this time of year, rather than annuals. Avoid annual plants as they will have to be replaced every year, which is an expense not everyone can afford. So rather than investing in a plant that will die every year, perennials last for up to three years and can survive our winters.<\/p>\n<h2>Add some Mulch (e.g. Bark Chips)<\/h2>\n<p>As well as adding a fertilizer, we recommend adding a layer of mulch to the surface area of your flower bed and garden soil. Mulch not only enhances the visual appearance of your garden, but also conserves the moisture and improves the fertility and overall health.
