Garden Bench Cushions
When choosing a garden bench it’s important to consider where the bench is going, and also the amount of use it is going to get in its final location.
If your new bench is going to be put in the garden as a place of reflection far away from the house and somewhere you may nip and feed the birds with a morning coffee then most people will not have a requirement for a bench cushion.
However, more often than not these days we see that a cushion is the most purchased accessory from us in order to add that extra level of comfort if you have your bench situated on the patio area or veranda. Rather than be a feature of the garden occasionally used a bench used close to the house is often for a more practical reason like taking off wellies in the morning after taking the dog out or a place to unwind with a glass of wine after the children have gone to bed when the days start to get a bit longer. If the bench is close to the home then a cushion can easily be stored in either an outdoor storage bench or in the garage or kitchen.
There are many cushion types and options available in the market with varying prices, it is important to fully read the content available about the cushions prior to purchase. For example the inside of a cushion (inner) should always be made of compressed fibres. Cheaper alternatives like foam will simply act like a sponge if the bench cushion is left out overnight and will soak up the excess waters and take forever to dry. I have lost count of the amount of people who tell me they always bring their cushion inside after use but I can honestly say that I have occasionally left my own bench cushion outside overnight and am certain I am not the only one! We only ever use compressed fibre because it does not absorb water or liquid, it simply allows the fluid to pass through the inner thus not soaking up excess.
No bench cushion is 100% waterproof as by definition once one begins to sew a cushion in manufacture they have to pierce the fabric (that maybe waterproof) and therefore allow water to pass through. All our bench cushions are made from Olefin fibre which is made from polyolefin. It is resistant to staining and colourfastness so therefore resistant to puddle stains and direct sunlight.
Hopefully these guidelines will allow you to make a more informed decision when choosing a cushion for your bench this summer so that you can enjoy your garden or patio area once the sun comes out.
